PUNTA CANA, Dominican Republic, November 26, 2024.– In a letter addressed to the President of the Peruvian Institute of Sports (IPD), Federico Tong, the Panam Sports Executive Committee announced that the continental event will take place from July 16 to August 1, 2027.
Following the Panam Sports Executive Committee meeting held last week in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, the dates for the upcoming Lima 2027 Pan American Games were confirmed.
The Peruvian government had presented three potential date options for hosting the Games: May, July, or September.
After a thorough analysis by Panam Sports, the Executive Committee agreed that the most significant multi-sport event on the continent will take place from July 16 to August 1, 2027.
“There were several factors to consider when determining the best dates for the Games. We reviewed the proposals and finally decided, together with the entire Executive Committee, that July would be the best option for several reasons. Perhaps the most important is that during this period, we can ensure the participation of the continent’s top athletes in Lima,” stated Panam Sports President, Neven Ilic.
Lima will host the Pan American Games for the second time in history, following the successful event in 2019. The Peruvian capital thus becomes the third city in the Americas to host the continental event twice, joining Mexico City (1955 and 1975) and Winnipeg (1967 and 1999).
