Panama takes second win in U19 pool play

BURNABY, Canada, May 14, 2026:  The U19 NORCECA Boys’ Continental Volleyball Championship at Simon Fraser University (SFU) is on its third and final day of pool play in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

In Group B, Panama swept Dominican Republic 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-14) in the first match of Thursday’s program.

Panama’s Head Coach Alexis Bernal was again impressed with his young squad’s performance: “It was an intense match. Thank God that we got the result with these young players who never give up.”

Attack points (37-28), blocks (7-4) and aces (5-0) were in favor of the Panamanian team. They also gained more points from Dominican Republic’s errors 26-14.

As in yesterday’s win over Puerto Rico, Captain Wen Downer led scoring with 16 points. Francisco Antonio De Jesus of Dominican Republic was next on the scoresheet with 14 points.

Panama’s group-phase record is 2-1, only losing to USA, while Dominican Republic is 0-3.

The top final four of the tournament will earn a berth to the U19 World Championships.
