MONCTON, New Brunswick, Canada, September 7, 2026. – Eight teams will gather in Moncton for the 2026 NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship, where three berths to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland will be at stake, while the tournament will also determine the teams that advance to NORCECA’s final qualification stage for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship will be held from September 11-16 at the Avenir Centre, with host Canada joined by Cuba, Curaçao, Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, Puerto Rico and defending champion United States.
The top three teams in the final standings will earn qualification to the 2027 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup in Poland.
Following the Continental Championship, the top four eligible teams, excluding the United States, already qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games as the host nation, will advance to the NORCECA Continental Olympic Qualification tournament. The semifinals will be played September 18, followed by the medal matches on September 19, with one Olympic berth at stake.
The United States enters the competition as defending champion after capturing the title in 2023, when it defeated Canada in the championship match and Cuba finished with the bronze medal.
Cuba is the most successful country in the history of the NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship with 15 gold medals, six silver and five bronzes for a total of 26 medals. The United States follows with 10 gold, 10 silver and four bronze medals, while Canada has earned one gold, seven silver and 13 bronze medals.
Canada captured its only continental title in 2015 and has also collected seven silver medals and 13 bronze medals throughout its history. Puerto Rico was crowned champion once, in 2021, and rounds out its medal tally with one silver and two bronze medals, while Mexico continues to seek its first continental title after earning three silver medals and three bronze medals.
The eight participating teams are divided into two pools of four. Pool A consists of Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico and Curaçao, while Pool B features the United States, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Guatemala.
The preliminary round will be played from September 11-13. The winners of each pool will advance directly to the semifinals, while the teams finishing second and third will compete in the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals are scheduled for September 14, followed by the semifinals on September 15. The NORCECA Men’s Continental Championship will conclude on September 16 with the classification and medal matches.
