CHILE, August 10, 2026.- The United States remains perfect at the FIVB Girls’ U17 World Championship, being held in several cities across Chile.
Meanwhile, NORCECA’s other three representatives, the Dominican Republic, Mexico and Puerto Rico, lost their respective matches on the fourth day of the tournament.
United States Defeats Thailand
The United States strengthened its hold on first place in Pool A by earning its fourth victory after defeating Thailand 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-16). With only one match remaining in pool play, the Americans have already secured a spot in the knockout round.
The United States dominated the match statistics, holding advantages of 39-21 in attacks, 12-4 in blocks and 9-5 in aces.
Julia Masselink of the United States was the match’s leading scorer with 17 points and delivered an outstanding performance from the service line with five aces. Peyton Smith contributed 12 points, including three aces, while Kari Knotts added 10 points.
Together, the three players accounted for more than 50% of the United States’ points in the match.
Dominican Republic Falls to Korea
The Dominican Republic lost to Korea 1-3 (18-25, 25-21, 19-25, 17-25). The loss leaves the Dominicans with a 1-3 record and one match remaining in pool play.
The highlight for the Dominican Republic was the performance of captain Rayni Mondesi, who scored 23 points and tied Korea’s captain as the match’s leading scorers.
Puerto Rico Falls to Italy
Puerto Rico lost to Italy 0-3 (18-25, 21-25, 15-25), but remains in contention to advance to the knockout round as the fourth-place team in Pool D.
Puerto Rico will close pool play against the Dominican Republic in a crucial match for qualification, with only one of the two teams able to advance.
Mexico Falls to China
Mexico lost to China 0-3 (12-25, 15-25, 17-25), a result that complicates its chances of advancing to the next round.
Mexico will close Pool B play against Tunisia. Mexico needs a victory and will also depend on the result of the match between Venezuela and the Philippines to determine its chances of advancing.
