USA celebrates

Suliane Davis led the U.S. offense with 20 points, followed by Taylor Harvey with 12, Devyn Wiest with 11, and Genevieve Harris with 7.

For Mexico, Angélica Torres, Naomi Cruz, and Aitana Tanguma each scored 7 points.

Tama Miyashiro, United States head coach: “It was a fun match. Mexico has very good players and created situations where we really had to dig deep to respond, which, in my opinion, is the best part of the game. We embraced that match pressure. Even though we’ve practiced a lot, we haven’t played many matches together on the court, so we just need to keep improving game by game.”

Eduardo Murguía, Mexico’s coach: “It was a match we knew would be difficult. At times we played well and put up a good fight, but just like in the previous match, we struggled to close out the sets. We were inconsistent in reception, and that hurt us in the final third of the sets. Now the priority is to get the team mentally ready to move past the preliminary round because from there it becomes a new tournament.”
