United States Tops Cuba, Canada Falls on Opening Day of Men’s VNL Week Two

June 24, 2026. – The United States opened Week Two of the 2026 Men’s Volleyball Nations League with a victory over Cuba, while Canada dropped its opening match to Slovenia.

Playing in Orléans, France, in Pool 4, the United States defeated Cuba 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19). The victory moves the Americans into second place in the overall standings with a 4-1 record, while Cuba remains winless in the tournament.

In team statistics, Team USA held the advantage in blocking (10-4) and capitalized on 29 Cuban unforced errors. Cuba, however, led in attacks (36-35) and service aces (4-1).

For the United States, opposite Jake Hanes led all scorers with 14 points, while outside hitter Torey DeFalco also reached double figures with 10 points. Israel Masso was the only Cuban player to score in double digits, finishing with 11 points.

The United States will face Iran on June 25 at 5:00 p.m. local time in France, while Cuba will take on the host nation, France, at 8:30 p.m.

Canada Falls to Slovenia

Canada lost 1-3 (23-25, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25) to host Slovenia, which had to battle hard in front of its home crowd to secure the victory in the final match of the opening day of Week Two of the Men’s VNL.

Brodie Hofer led the Canadian offense with 18 points, including three blocks, while Jackson Howe finished with 10 points, four of them coming from blocks.

Slovenia outperformed Canada in attacks (63-51) and service aces (8-3), while the Canadians held the edge in blocking (10-6). In unforced errors, Slovenia committed 27 compared to just 21 by Canada.

Canada currently sits in 14th place in the standings with one win and four losses. Three of those defeats have come in five-set matches.

The Canadians will rest on June 25.
