USA and Canada Close Week Two of the Women’s VNL with Victories

June 21, 2026.- The United States and Canada wrapped up the second week of the 2026 Women’s Volleyball Nations League with victories over Serbia and Poland, respectively. Meanwhile, the Dominican Republic fell in five sets to Czechia.

United States Defeats Serbia in Four Sets

The United States concluded its second week of VNL action with a 3-1 (25-22, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20) victory over Serbia. The win moved the Americans to the top of the overall standings, thanks to Brazil’s loss to Germany.

The United States outperformed Serbia in attacks (62-55) and blocks (11-8), with Dana Rettke playing a key role at the net, contributing three blocks during the match. Serbia held a slight edge in service aces, 5-4.

Four American players reached double digits in scoring. Avery Skinner led the team with 18 points, followed closely by Logan Eggleston with 17. Jordan Thompson added 14 points, while Asjia O’Neal contributed 10 to support the U.S. offense.

The United States will play the final week of preliminary competition in Osaka, Japan. Their schedule includes Thailand on July 8, Poland on July 9, Türkiye on July 10, and Brazil on July 11.

Canada Defeats Poland in a Hard-Fought Battle

Canada earned a 3-2 (25-23, 21-25, 25-16, 11-25, 15-13) victory over Poland to remain among the top eight teams currently in position to qualify for the Finals, improving to a 5-3 record.

The Canadians overcame 28 unforced errors by dominating the team statistics, leading in attacks (58-55), blocks (17-14), and service aces (6-4).

Kiera Van Ryk continued adding to her impressive VNL scoring total. After surpassing the 1,000-point milestone earlier this week, she finished Sunday’s match with 26 points, including two blocks and four aces, making her the match’s top scorer.

Team captain Emily Maglio contributed 13 points and led Canada in blocking with six stuffs, while Andrea Mitrovic added 11 points.

Canada will play the final week of the preliminary round in China. The Canadians will face host China on July 8, Belgium on July 9, Italy on July 11, and conclude preliminary play against the Dominican Republic on July 12.

Dominican Republic Falls to Czechia in Five Sets

The Dominican Republic was unable to hold its early advantage and eventually lost to Czechia 2-3 (25-17, 26-24, 18-25, 29-31, 10-15).

The Caribbean Queens were superior in blocking (16-13), while Czechia held the edge in attacks (70-67) and service aces (3-1). The teams were nearly even in unforced errors, with the Dominican Republic committing 26 and Czechia 24.

Five Dominican players reached double figures in scoring. Flormarie Heredia led the team with 17 points. Geraldine González (five blocks), Yonkaira Peña, and Jineiry Martínez each finished with 15 points, while Alondra Tapia added 14.

The Dominican Republic will travel to China alongside Canada for the final week of preliminary competition. Their schedule begins on July 7 against Belgium, followed by Ukraine on July 10, China on July 11, and Canada on July 12.
