June 10, 2026.- The Men’s VNL kicked off the first of its three weeks of competition with a United States victory in Pool 1. At the same venue in Ottawa, Canada, the host team was unable to open with a win, while Cuba also dropped its opening match in Pool 3, being held in Linyi, China.
Important Victory for the United States in Their Opening Match

The United States began the first week of the Men’s VNL in Pool 1 with an important 3-1 victory (25-20, 20-25, 25-20, 25-23) over Türkiye.
Four American players reached double digits in scoring, led by opposite hitter Jake Hanes, who was the match’s top scorer with 21 points. Team captain Matthew Anderson added 15 points, while Jeffrey Jendryk II and Ethan Champlin finished with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
In the team statistics, the Americans outperformed the Turks in attacks (59-53) and blocks (7-5), while Türkiye held the advantage in service aces (6-2). The United States committed three fewer unforced errors than Türkiye (24-27).
The victory places the United States in fourth position in the overall standings after the opening day of Week 1.
The Americans will rest on June 11 and return to action on June 12 against Germany at 16:00 local time.
Canada Falls to Germany in Five Sets

Canada lost 2-3 (26-24, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25, 13-15) to Germany in a thrilling match that closed the opening day of the Men’s VNL.
Playing at home, the Canadians were unable to hold their lead and eventually fell in a hard-fought five-set battle.
Canada was clearly superior in blocking, leading 14-7, while Germany held the advantage in attacks (62-57). Both teams recorded three service aces. In unforced errors, Canada committed 37 compared to Germany’s 30.
Canada’s captain Eric Loeppky was his team’s leading scorer with 15 points. Sharone Vernon-Evans “Sho” added 14 points, Jackson Howe scored 13, including five blocks, and Timothy Maar contributed 11 points.
On Thursday, June 11, Canada will face France at 19:30 local time.
Cuba Opens with a Loss to Poland

Cuba began the 2026 Men’s VNL in Pool 3 with a 0-3 defeat (16-25, 20-25, 21-25) against world number one Poland.
The Poles took advantage of Cuba’s 21 unforced errors and dominated the team statistics, leading in attacks (37-33), blocks (11-7), and service aces (6-3).
Opposite hitter Miguel González was the only Cuban player to reach double figures, finishing with 14 points, including four blocks.
Cuba has a rest day on June 11 and will face Ukraine on June 12 at 16:30 local time.
