GUATEMALA CITY,Guatemala, August 9, 2026.- Venezuela was crowned champion of the second Boys’ U17 Pan American Cup after defeating Canada 3-0 (25-22, 25-22, 25-19) in the final at the Domo Polideportivo in Guatemala City.
Venezuela came out strong and built a 19-12 lead in the first set. Canada regrouped and managed to cut the deficit down the stretch, but the comeback fell short as the South Americans took the set 25-22.
Venezuela remained ahead on the scoreboard for the rest of the match. Canada battled to stay close, but Venezuela’s defense, along with the difference in serving and unforced errors, proved decisive as the South Americans closed out the match in straight sets.
Despite the loss, Canada outperformed Venezuela 36-31 in attacks and 10-5 in blocks, with Liam Bendavid accounting for seven of Canada’s blocks. The champions held a commanding 7-1 advantage in aces. Unforced errors also made a significant difference, with Canada committing 32 compared to only 16 by Venezuela.
Josué García led Venezuela’s offense with 13 points and Alejandro Rondón contributed 12. For Canada, Julián Josephs was the match’s leading scorer with 19 points, while Bennett Krahn finished with 14.
Venezuela finished the tournament undefeated with five victories without dropping a single set, while Canada finished with a 4-2 win-loss record.
