GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, August 5, 2026. – Venezuela defeated Honduras 3-0 (25-15, 25-9, 25-22) to remain unbeaten at the Boys’ U17 Pan American Cup, being held at the Multi-Sport Dome in Guatemala City.
Venezuela controlled the match from the outset, dominating the first two sets with a balanced performance on both offense and defense.
The third set was more competitive, as Honduras raised its level of play and stayed within close distance on the scoreboard. Venezuela’s coaching staff took the opportunity to rotate its lineup before returning to its regular starters to close out the match.
Venezuela held a 44-12 advantage in attacks and led 4-1 in service aces. Honduras, however, outblocked its opponent 6-5, thanks to a stronger performance at the net in the third set.
Josué García of Venezuela was the only player to reach double figures, finishing with 10 points. For Honduras, Santiago Guity led the team with six points, including four blocks.
Venezuela’s libero Jhonny González said:
“We’re very happy. This is exactly what we’re looking for, a good opportunity to prepare as a team ahead of the World Championship.”
Speaking about the team’s objectives, González added:
“We want to finish first in our group and secure a place in the semifinals. From that stage on, the matches will be much tougher, but we’ll continue giving everything we have.”
Honduras’ libero Carlos Ochoa said:
“Venezuela is a very strong team. We did everything we could and fought until the end. I think it was a very good match.”
