VNL Women’s 2026 Begins with USA Victory, and Losses for Dominican Republic and Canada

Wednesday, June 3, 2026.- The 2026 Women’s VNL got underway on Wednesday, June 3, with Pool 1 in Quebec, Canada, Pool 2 in Brasília, Brazil, and Pool 3 in Nanjing, China. The United States and host Canada are competing in Quebec, while the Dominican Republic is playing in Brasília.

USA Open with Comfortable Victory over Ukraine

The United States earned a comfortable 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-23) victory over Ukraine in their opening match of the 2026 Women’s VNL.

In team statistics, Ukraine outscored the United States in attacks (42-39), but the Americans were better in blocks (9-2) and serves (9-3), while capitalizing on the Europeans’ 18 unforced errors.

Avery Skinner was the match’s top scorer with 12 points, including three aces and one block. Middle blocker Asjia O’Neal finished with 10 points, half of them coming from blocks.

With the victory, the United States improved to a 1-0 record.

Canada Falls to Germany in Its Debut

Canada was unable to take advantage of home court and fell to Germany 1-3 (26-28, 25-22, 18-25, 18-25) in its opening match of the 2026 Women’s VNL.

The Canadians were better than the Germans in serving (5-3), while the Europeans dominated in attacks (62-54) and blocks (12-11). Canada committed 23 unforced errors, while Germany made only 17.

Canada’s Alexa Gray led the home side with 23 points, including one block. Her teammate Kiera Van Ryk added 13 points, two of them coming from blocks.

With the result, Canada begins the tournament with one loss and no victories.

In a Thrilling Match, Dominican Republic Falls to Türkiye

In a thrilling contest, the Dominican Republic lost 2-3 (25-17, 20-25, 16-25, 25-23, 11-15) to Türkiye, ranked third in the world, in the opening match of Pool 2 during the first week of the 2026 Women’s VNL.

In team statistics, Türkiye outscored the Dominican Republic in attacks (68-58), while the Dominicans were better in blocks (16-15) and serves (3-2). Both teams committed 20 unforced errors.

Five Dominican players reached double figures in scoring. Flormarie Heredia led the team with 17 points, while Yonkaira Peña and Jineiry Martínez each scored 15 points each, with Martínez also leading her team in blocks with five. Geraldine González finished with 11 points and Alondra Tapia added 10.

With the result, the Dominican Republic starts the tournament with one loss and no victories.
