October 12, 2023.- NORCECA and the FIVB is deeply saddened by the passing of Mark Tennant from Canada, whose contributions to the sport of volleyball spanned over four decades, encompassing roles as a player, coach, technical leader and international representative.
Tennant was a cherished and prominent figure within the global Volleyball Family. His knowledge and expertise were invaluable contributions to various NORCECA and FIVB Commissions, in addition to his role as a Technical Delegate at several volleyball and beach volleyball events.
His legacy in the development of volleyball in Canada includes his key role in staging international events, such as the 1999 Women’s Junior World Volleyball Championship among others. While leading the women’s programme at the University of Saskatchewan, Tennant pioneered Supervolley, one of Canada’s largest and most prestigious open tournaments. Over its 20-year history, it evolved into the biggest tournament in North America, drawing teams from across Canada, the U.S. and Mexico.
NORCECA, the FIVB and global Volleyball Family extend their heartfelt condolences to the Canada volleyball community, as well as his family and loved ones, at this difficult time.
