NUEVO LEON, Mexico, May 30, 2023.- Italian coach Nicola Negro and his Italian technical staff had his first practice with players of the women’s Mexican senior team at “Luis E. Todd” Gymnasium in San Nicolas de los Garza in Nuevo León, Mexico.
This is his first time coaching for Mexico, Negro is joined by assistant coach Milo Piccinini and Physichal trainer Giorgio Bisolli.
Negro arrived in Monterrey this past weekend, from Brazil, where he has been for several years coaching women professional teams and traveling to different international World Clubs championships with outstanding results.
“First of all, I want to meet with the players”, said Negro after his first practice, “I want to see all the possibilities to form an idea of the level of play of the athletes as a team and individually as well”.
“I have a clear vision of the level of play I want to build” he added, “but I need time, every week we will try to build something important”.
The players started their training, headed to represent Mexico for the upcoming Central American and Caribbean Games in El Salvador at the end of June and the Pan American Games in Santiago, Chile in October.
“We are aiming to have a competitive team, we all want good results, but we are aware of some realities. We are aware that in the past years there has been a distance between Mexico and teams from NORCECA and at an international level.
“Our goal is to work hard to shorten that distance and to be competitive at an international level”, Negro stated.
He is also aware that players who are currently competing abroad with important results with their teams will be part of his process.
“I know Mexico has players, who are in Europe or the United States, competing in important tournaments.
“Mexico has a group of experienced players, and we want to include young players behind them so the team can grow” he commented.
The Italian coach with 23 years of experience is in Mexico with an agreement between Mexico’s National Federation, presided by Jesús Perales Navarro, and the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment program.
