ZINACANTEPEC, Mexico, September 27, 2026.- Dominican Republic finished fifth at the 2026 NORCECA Women’s Final Six after a convincing 3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-16) victory over Canada at the Unidad Deportiva Juan Fernández Albarrán.
The Dominican Republic finished the tournament with a 3-3 record, while Canada closed its campaign without a win.
The Caribbean side imposed its presence at the net with a commanding 11-2 advantage in blocks and also held a 6-2 edge in aces. Dominican Republic outscored Canada 34-26 in attacks and committed 14 errors compared to Canada’s 24.
Geraldine Gonzalez led Dominican Republic with 13 points on nine kills, three blocks and one ace. Florangel Terrero added 10 points, including six kills and a match-high four blocks. Jenna Snyder and Mackenzie Pool scored eight points apiece for Canada.
Dominican Republic established control early in the match, taking the first two sets by identical 25-14 scores. Their strong presence at the net continued to make the difference as they completed the straight-set victory with a 25-16 third set.
“We wanted to compete for a medal, but this is part of a process,” Dominican Republic head coach Marcos Kwiek said. “We are closing the season after two tournaments, the Pan American Cup and the Final Six, and both were very positive for us looking toward the future. We are satisfied with the work we did. Of course, it is bittersweet not to finish with a medal, but that is also part of the process and something they have to learn from.”
Canada head coach Carolyn O’Dwyer said the tournament provided her team with valuable lessons heading into its upcoming season.
“Overall, I think it was a positive experience for us because we got exposed a lot,” O’Dwyer said. “Going into our season, there is a lot for us to work on. As long as we can build off this, I think it is going to be really positive.”
