GÜIBIA, Dominican Republic, May 8, 2026. – Five men’s duos, representing the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Mexico (both teams), and Cuba, remained undefeated after the opening day of competition at the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour, held on the sand courts of Güibia Beach.
In Pool A, the Dominican pair Ramón De Jesús/Alexander Wilmore secured two victories. They first edged past Charles Siragusa/Rowdy Lennon of the United States in a tight three-set battle, 2-1 (16-21, 21-17, 16-14), before defeating Guatemala’s Edgar Maldonado/José Izaguirre in straight sets, 2-0 (21-19, 21-17).
In Pool B, El Salvador’s Gabriel Vargas/Rafael Vargas also posted a perfect record, overcoming Jesario Ebanks/William Duty of the Cayman Islands 2-0 (21-14, 21-13) and Costa Rica’s Lance Akerson/Cristhian Oporta 2-0 (21-12, 21-8). Mexico’s top duo, Miguel Sarabia/Jorman Osuna, matched that performance with straight-set wins over Akerson/Oporta, 2-0 (21-11, 21-11), and Ebanks/Duty, 2-0 (21-10, 21-14).

Meanwhile, in Pool C, Mexico’s Antonio Lares/Carlos Ayala maintained their unbeaten run by defeating Canada’s David Chaput/Cameron McGregor 2-0 (21-15, 21-19) and Puerto Rico’s Cristian Encarnación/José Pacheco 2-0 (21-18, 21-13).
In Pool D, Cuba’s Damián Gómez/Eblis Veranes dominated their matches, beating Costa Rica’s Julián Araya/Stanley Grant 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) and the Dominican duo Hayerling De Jesús/Oscar Martínez 2-0 (21-14, 21-19).
The tournament resumes on Saturday at 8:45 a.m. (local time) with the continuation of the preliminary round, followed by placement matches and the quarterfinals.
