Panama beats Dominican Republic at U19s

BURNABY, Canada, May 16, 2026:  Classification matches began on Saturday at U19 NORCECA Boys’ Continental Volleyball Championship at Simon Fraser University (SFU) in Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada.

In the first match of the day, Dominican Republic fell to Panama. The score was Dominican Republic 1 Panama 3 (15-25, 25-23, 17-25, 18-25).

Panama now has a chance to play for fifth place in the tournament. Dominican Republic will play for positions 7 or 8 on Sunday.

Today, Panama led in key skills – attacking (60-39), blocking (13-4) and serving (5-2). Dominican Republic gained more points from Panama’s errors (30-20).

Team Panama’s captain Wen Downer, who led all scoring with 26 points (22 kills, 2 blocks and 2 aces), said: “This was a good game. I feel very happy with the team and glad to have achieved a victory. We enjoyed the match and want to keep moving forward. Hopefully, in the next game, we can secure another win.”

There are a total of eight teams in the tournament; with the semifinals being held on today and the finals on May 17.
