PONCE, Puerto Rico, April 19, 2026.- The Semifinal Series B of the Women’s Superior Volleyball League will go to a seventh and decisive match this Wednesday after the Leonas de Ponce successfully defended their home court for the third consecutive time at the Juan “Pachín” Vicéns Auditorium, defeating the Criollas de Caguas in straight sets on Sunday night.
The match had finals-level intensity, with all three sets decided in extra points in favor of the Leonas: 26-24, 29-27, and 28-26.
Ponce came from behind in every set. In the first, Caguas failed to hold leads of 12-5 and later 22-18, despite an effective kill by Alexandra Sczech.
The Leonas responded with a 4-0 run, fueled by two attacks from Sherridan Atkinson, to tie the score at 22. After multiple ties up to 24, Ponce closed the set with another kill by Atkinson and a block by Jenselyn Morales on Genesis Collazo.
In the next two sets, the Criollas again held set points at 24-22 but were unable to close them out. The home team capitalized on every opportunity and sealed both frames in extra points.
Ponce’s offense was led by Sherridan Atkinson with 24 points and Claire Chaussee with 20. For Caguas, Jenaisya Moore led with 15 points, followed by Temi Thomas-Ailara with 12, while Alexandra Sczech and Genesis Collazo added 11 each.
In team statistics, Ponce edged Caguas in attacks (49-48), service aces (3-0), digs (90-83), receptions (46-35), and assists (20-6). Caguas led in blocks (13-9).
The Cangrejeras de Santurce, the first confirmed finalists, remain awaiting the outcome between Ponce and Caguas.
