Canada savors victory over Puerto Rico

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic, August 24, 2023.- Canada needed only three sets to beat Puerto Rico 3-0 (25-20, 25-15, 25-19) and thus achieve their first victory in the third edition of the NORCECA Final Six Pan American Cup.

Jasmine Rivest added 15 points for the Canadians, followed by Nyadholi Thokbuom and Raya Surinx who added 14 and 12 points respectively. For Puerto Rico, which saw its record drop to (0-4), its captain Norian Ceballos was the most outstanding with 14 points.

Averie Allard, captain of Canada: I think this game showed the depth of our bench as we were able to use the full team. It was a very long and demanding day for us with two games but we knew how to face them and go out on the field to give everything of us and I think that shows the desire we have to win.

Norian Ceballos, captain of Puerto Rico: I think we had many good moments but we didn’t know how to capitalize on them, always battling until points 15 and 16, the first was our best set then we tried to get back into rhythm in the third but we couldn’t.
