FIVB and CISM Strengthen Cooperation to Promote Volleyball ahead of 2027 Military World Summer Games

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, October 10, 2026.- The countdown to the 8th CISM Military World Summer Games was at the heart of discussions as the FIVB welcomed a delegation from the International Military Sports Council (CISM) to the Volleyball House in Lausanne.

Taking place from 25 June to 4 July 2027, the Games will feature both volleyball and beach volleyball, providing another major platform to bring the sport to military athletes and communities around the world.

The CISM delegation was led by President Colonel Nilton Gomes Rolim Filho, alongside Secretary General Navy Captain Roberto Recchia and Media & Communication Director David Vandenplas. They were welcomed to the Volleyball House by FIVB President Fabio Azevedo, General Sports Director Steve Tutton, Head of Sports Department Yu Cao and Head of International Affairs and Communications Anna Manuelian.

The joint focus of growing the sport, supporting development and promoting wellbeing through volleyball is clear.

The two organisations have a long history of working together. The first official Memorandum of Understand (MoU) was signed in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, during the Olympic Games, to harmonise technical cooperation and promote volleyball and beach volleyball in the military sports world.

This was highlighted by the “Volleyball Your Way” movement held during the World League in Curitiba in 2017. Children had the opportunity to learn from and play with Olympians and take part in educational and volleyball-focused activities.

As the Lausanne meeting closed, the two parties agreed to continue working closely in the lead-up to the CISM Military World Summer Games.

The meeting reflects the shared commitment of the FIVB and CISM to use sport to build friendship and understanding among nations, and working together to make volleyball more accessible, affordable and understandable.
