LAUSANNE, SWITZERLAND, October 10, 2026.- Mexico’s ambition to build on its growing beach volleyball legacy and bring more people into the sport was at the heart of discussions during a visit by Mexico’s Sports Minister Rommel Pacheco to the Volleyball House in Lausanne.
There is already a strong foundation to build on.
In 2023, Tlaxcala, Huamantla and Apizaco hosted the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, bringing the sport’s flagship event back to Latin American for the first time in 20 years. The country has since continued to feature regularly on the Beach Pro Tour, reinforcing its place as an established international destination for the sport.
Progress has also been visible in volleyball. Mexico’s women’s national team returned to the FIVB Volleyball World Championship in 2025 after a seven-year absence, following several years of support through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme.
Against this backdrop, Pacheco met with the FIVB and Volleyball World teams to explore how that momentum can be taken further.
The conversations looked at future event-hosting opportunities across beach volleyball, from Beach Pro Tour Elite and Challenge events to age-group competitions. Mass participation was another key focus. As one of the priorities of FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, the conversations explored how volleyball could support the country’s wider efforts to get more people active and engaged in sport across Mexico.
From the unforgettable scenes of Tlaxcala 2023 to new opportunities for participation nationwide, the meeting reflected a shared ambition to build on Mexico’s strong volleyball foundations and take the sport to even more people across the country.
